"Thanks to tourism, we improved the quality of life of our families, showing our textiles of fine yarns with natural dyes, inspired by our daily lives."

The actual population of the Amaru community consists of 200 families, who choose their own representative who has total authority for a period of two years. Its economy is based on agriculture and animal rearing. To help supplement their income, the communities have organized activities to teach the world about their ancient heritage and culture.

The planting, harvest, and other agricultural activities are connected with offers to Pachamama and the Apus, with the K’intuy, a ritual offer of coca leaves to the Apus. Huanacaure is the most important mountain in the region.

The Amaru community offers to their visitors one of the most relevant traditional activities: the textile process. They will teach the entire process of creating each textile — from dyeing the wool with natural plants to the final product.
For ethnobotanical lovers, the locals will share their knowledge about natural plants used in traditional medicine.

The archaeological center of Pisac is one of the most important attractions near the community, only 40 minutes away from Amaru — a magnificent temple of Inca control built in the 15th century.

The most representative dish is La Merienda (a dish based on cuy — a guinea pig — lamb, dried meat, tortilla made of corn, quinoa, cheese, and other native products from the area); and the typical drink is fermented corn, called chicha de jora.

The highlights of the communal festivities are the Carnival, between February and March, and the Communal Anniversary, on the 15th of May.
